This vision popped into my head when I heard that the Chinese had landed an exploratory vehicle on the Moon. It is called "Jade Rabbit", because instead of seeing a man on the moon, they see a jade rabbit.
I live and work in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My perception of things is expressed in a narrative, story-telling form. The style is cartoon-influenced, yet painterly; sometimes refined, sometimes crude. In recent years I have been moving toward a more Cartoon-Realist approach. I want a simpler look, where I can get the utmost expression out of each line, and each brushstroke expresses energy. My influences range from the scenes of everyday life pictured in the margins of medieval manuscripts, Late Medieval and early Renaissance art, Indian narrative folk painting, classic European Surrealism, Latin American Fantastic Realism and Mexican Social Commentary, comics and graphic novels. This is cool! It speaks to the folklore surrounding the Jade Rabbit in Chinese and Aztec cultures. Also the Chinese named their moon rover Yutu in 2013.. This is beautifully drawn and painted! I love the expression on the cute bunny's face! :) This is a very well done piece! L/F
