Artist's Description

Animals who dance and humans trying to dance with them is an ongoing theme of mine. Animals dance for many of the same reasons we do; not only for mating ritual, but also for sheer joy. By studying the behavior of our fellow citizens of this planet, we come to know more about our own place in the scheme of things. Humans have erroneously held themselves apart and "superior" from the rest of Nature for too long. Because of that, we have nearly destroyed the world. Time to change.

I live and work in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My perception of things is expressed in a narrative, story-telling form. The style is cartoon-influenced, yet painterly; sometimes refined, sometimes crude. In recent years I have been moving toward a more Cartoon-Realist approach. I want a simpler look, where I can get the utmost expression out of each line, and each brushstroke expresses energy. My influences range from the scenes of everyday life pictured in the margins of medieval manuscripts, Late Medieval and early Renaissance art, Indian narrative folk painting, classic European Surrealism, Latin American Fantastic Realism and Mexican Social Commentary, comics and graphic novels.
