Artist's Description

This is one of the skeleton-themed pieces I do every year for Day of the Dead. This is based, obviously, on a famous photo of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. People can achieve a kind of immortality by what they've done in their lives, and the people they've touched along the way. I like to think Fred and Ginger are still dancing somewhere among the stars.

Holly Wood

I live and work in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My perception of things is expressed in a narrative, story-telling form. The style is cartoon-influenced, yet painterly; sometimes refined, sometimes crude. In recent years I have been moving toward a more Cartoon-Realist approach. I want a simpler look, where I can get the utmost expression out of each line, and each brushstroke expresses energy. My influences range from the scenes of everyday life pictured in the margins of medieval manuscripts, Late Medieval and early Renaissance art, Indian narrative folk painting, classic European Surrealism, Latin American Fantastic Realism and Mexican Social Commentary, comics and graphic novels.
