This was done for a group show about communing with our ancestors. My inspiration came from a past-life reading done by my hair-cutter. He had a vision of me in a past life as a pugnacious little nomadic warrior woman riding a shaggy pony across the steppes of Central Asia. It fits. The pony is unimpressed.

I live and work in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My perception of things is expressed in a narrative, story-telling form. The style is cartoon-influenced, yet painterly; sometimes refined, sometimes crude. In recent years I have been moving toward a more Cartoon-Realist approach. I want a simpler look, where I can get the utmost expression out of each line, and each brushstroke expresses energy. My influences range from the scenes of everyday life pictured in the margins of medieval manuscripts, Late Medieval and early Renaissance art, Indian narrative folk painting, classic European Surrealism, Latin American Fantastic Realism and Mexican Social Commentary, comics and graphic novels.
