A beauty queen is coyly posing while goats chow down on her roses. This has elicited many different responses from different people, from laughter, to admiration of the painting technique to creeping dread and outright fear. Can people really be so afraid of goats? Or maybe they're afraid of beauty queens?

Holly Wood

I live and work in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My perception of things is expressed in a narrative, story-telling form. The style is cartoon-influenced, yet painterly; sometimes refined, sometimes crude. In recent years I have been moving toward a more Cartoon-Realist approach. I want a simpler look, where I can get the utmost expression out of each line, and each brushstroke expresses energy. My influences range from the scenes of everyday life pictured in the margins of medieval manuscripts, Late Medieval and early Renaissance art, Indian narrative folk painting, classic European Surrealism, Latin American Fantastic Realism and Mexican Social Commentary, comics and graphic novels.
